NOT ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY
Bali, Indonesia Elizabeth, Jul 08, 2005 09:01 AM
Travelling to Bali is a great experience. You can relax, get a suntan, be pampered daily, shop till you drop, eat, drink eat. The choice is yours, a Bali holiday can be whatever you desire it to be.
If you are a shopoholic, then Bali is certainly the place for you. Of course you can buy your trinkets etc on the beach, but BEWARE, you are certainly getting no bargains here, there is always a middle man. Be adventurous and seek out the warehouses in and around Bali. There are many great homewares warehouses, one in particular that I like is Geneva, in Seminyak. The prices are fantastic. You can pick up a bunch of 10 beaded Geeko key rings for around A - 10c each, great pressies, or lovely bamboo salad servers A $ 0.99c. They also have an array of wooden masks, bowls, bamboo placemats, beaded lamp shades. The list goes on and on. You can save yourself so much time and haggling by making a visit. I bought beautiful buddha heads, wooden for approx A, back in Australia they are selling for about - crazy. Just be careful with some bamboo items, I did buy some gorgeous candles covered with bamboo, but I did notice back at the hotel little creatures were running around inside, and you won't get these back into the country, so I gave them away. Also don't buy the beautiful
banana leaf covered photo albums, I had to surrender mine at the airport and was very disappointed when I had to do so.
Silk cushions covers are another great buy. There are many outlets for these, I bought mine in Seminyak and only paid A each and ordered a particular colour and quantity which they made especially. If you thought ahead you could also have curtains, cusions etc made for your home, so measure up before you go.
Tailor made clothing is something else to lash out on., Of course you must buy a leather jacket or three. Great prices. Search out for quality though, again everyone wants to take your money, but be patient and shop around, double stitching, good quality lining are all the things to look for. You should only pay around -0 for good quality jackets depending on styles. I am the proud owner of four jackets and would never be able to buy them back in Australia. This time round I did take material with me to have some skirts and jackets made for work and am so pleased with the end results, for a fully lined, zippered straight skirt to be made - mad if you don't do it. I have had blouses made and trousers, all very good quality and I throw them in the washing machine, so it is well worth the time and effort to do this.
Make-up is another item
worth seeking out. Brand name make-up at a quarter of the price you can buy it for in Australia, look in the department stores.
Well as you can see Bali can be a mecca for a shopping enthusiast, so get to it and book today. No matter what you'll have a great time and will want to go back.
