A bucketful of style

Australia's second-largest city and Victoria's thriving capital is a restless, image-conscious centre with a bucketful of style. Of all Australia's cities, Melbourne is perhaps the most European in feel. Both premier performing and visual arts are represented in Melbourne. Several major venues act as focal points for the city?s cultural scene, and festivals take top acts to the stage. The National Gallery of Victoria has the largest collection of European art in the antipodes. Federation Square NGV, in the heart of the city, houses the largest collection of Australian art in existence. Victoria takes credit in ?inventing? Anglo-Australian art, through the Heidelburg School movement in the 19th century. For Australian Modernism, go to its birthplace at Heidi Museum of Modern Art.
