It's Oxford street, 'Sweetie Darling'!!
Sydney, New South Wales Diane, Aug 12, 2005 12:00 AM
Our travels to the Sydney Mardi Gras have seen us trudge up and down Oxford St 6 times.
We have seen so many different people, experienced a culture not normally so openly shared generously with the general community.
In 2005 families with children came and watched the parade and it was pick the celebrity as they all came out to celebrate.
However this is not just about this event once a year..but about what you can find.
The small little restaurants on the side streets, some no bigger than a lounge room with a kitchen attached. Food from all over the world can be sought and often offered till late in the evening, as the parties continue.
Bars that will often have a drag queen or two out front welcoming you in for a beer.
The beautiful Hyde Park where you can take a picnic lunch, and only a short stroll away from the many hotels that surround this busy area.
We love the atmosphere and to be there and being a part of the culture is sensational..and so many people who finally go really see that it is more than just an event it is a statement, an expression, and especially a gift for all the visitors and residents of NSW.
A must to attend!!
