Rafting - capsize BUT loads of fun
Bali, Indonesia Linda, Sep 08, 2005 08:55 AM
My girlfriend and I whilst in Bali recently decided to do a half day white water rafting trip up in the Mountains in Bali.... Picked up Monday 22nd Aug 2005 at 7.30am to head off.. we were both quite excited and it was a beautiful day for it. When we arrive we were greeted by the balinese people from "Adventure Travel" nice cup of tea and some water before getting strapped up with life jackets helmts etc.. then we were off walking through some bush land down about 100 steps to get to the river, such gorgeous sceneary nice fresh air! We went into a raft with another couple Richard & Kerry who sat in the front both Carine & I second seat and our tour guide up the back.. went over the basics of paddling forward, backward, stoping, bom bom which meant hold on to the rope on the side (if we were going to crash into rocks etc) and of course lay back to slide underneath hanging trees. So we started down the river all having such a great time with 5 other rafts in total infront and behind. about 15 mins into the trip a raft tipped over with a family of 3 the father flew down the river for about 100m he was ok with a few bruises managed to get back in and off again! about half way through the rafting we all stopped off to have some refreshments and take photos of the scenary and waterfall
this was awesome. Then to get back into the raft we headed off under other water falls bumping around was great! Until we hit a rock tip up and over both Carine and I found our selves under the raft so both ducked under water and came up on the outside only to be dragged down the river.. this river was about a 3-4 grade fast and shallow.. bumping along smashing arms legs bums against every rock you could imagine both saying swim to the side.. Carine made it to one side after about 150m I travelled to the right, to try and grab hold of another raft turned to the side to see my thongs and a paddle fly straight pass me (lucky I didn't like the thongs) when I reached the side I was bumped by the raft which then sent me flying down the river again by this stage I think I had managed to bumped my big toe on my right foot about 3 times and was killing me, along with my bottom... finally I reach out a grabbed a rock but that didn't hold me for to long.. again off down the river being dunked under water coming up and seeing rocks about to smash into them was not a graet thing very scary!! after about 500m of uncontrolled floating/swmming down the river I stopped slowly dragging myself up onto a rock with cuts to knees, ankles, elbows toes you name I was bashed and bruised.. but so glad
to have stopped. Everyone was alright I was pretty shaken up but ok.. We finlly got back to the raft and headed off again had a couple more bumps which ran horrible thoughts through my head again but nothing happened. When we finished I couldn't walk properly on my right foot where I had been bashing my toe down the river.. we at lunch and travelled back to our resorts. By the time we got home my foot had blown up like a balloon and I couldn't walk on it for the rest of the day/night had to get the Dr in to check to see if I hadn't broken it. Nope no broken but couldn't wear shoes for the rest of our trip! not even thongs... Still to this day 8th Sept I cannot walk on my foot right and have now had to go have x-rays to see if I have fratured it.. In saying all of this which the rip sounds crap IT WASN'T I had the best time looking abck on it was a good thrill just wish i got wear the shoes I want to to work... I do recommend anyone to do this rafting!! with such beautiful scenery wildlife and fab lunch at the end was just great! picture to come
